Fossil Junkies presents the First Annual Fossil Junkies Meg Week — a five-day offshore fossil diving competition built for serious fossil hunters, megalodon collectors, and divers who live for the hunt.

Meg Week brings together 30 divers over five consecutive days to compete for trophies, prizes, and bragging rights while searching for megalodon teeth and Ice Age fossils off the Gulf Coast of Venice, Florida.

2026 marks the Founder’s Year of Meg Week as we begin building what we hope becomes a legendary annual tradition within the fossil diving community.

Meg Week is more than a competition — it’s a week built around the thrill of real offshore fossil hunting in the waters of Venice, Florida. From giant megalodon teeth to Ice Age fossils, every dive has the potential to uncover something unforgettable. Whether you’re competing for trophies or simply chasing the hunt, Meg Week is designed to bring together divers who share the same passion for prehistoric discovery.

• One official competition day per diver 

Each Meg Week dive day includes:

All contestants must dive through Fossil Junkies to compete in Meg Week.

This category represents the highest-prestige award of Meg Week and will be judged on:

• Overall preservation 
• Enamel quality 
• Serrations 
• Bourlette 
• Symmetry 
• Overall eye appeal 

• Megalodon tooth must measure at least 4 inches using longest slant measurement to qualify for championship consideration. 
• If no qualifying 4"+ championship-quality megalodon tooth is recovered during Meg Week, judges may award the Largest Megalodon Tooth winner both categories if deemed deserving.

Awarded to the largest complete measurable megalodon tooth recovered during Meg Week.

• Teeth will be measured using longest slant measurement.

Awarded to the diver who recovers the highest number of qualifying complete megalodon teeth during Meg Week.

• Partial teeth and fragments DO NOT count. 
• Teeth must retain identifiable complete crown and root structure to qualify.   Must be fully intact.

Awarded for the largest extinct mako tooth recovered during Meg Week.

All contestants will receive an official:

Shirt sizes will be selected during online registration checkout.

To maintain fairness and legitimacy:

✅ All finds must be recovered during official Fossil Junkies Meg Week dives
✅ Contestants must personally recover their finds
✅ Fossil Junkies tournament staff may request recovery verification photos/videos
✅ Fossil Junkies reserves the right to disqualify suspicious or unverifiable finds
✅ Final judging decisions are at the discretion of Captain John and Fossil Junkies staff
✅ Fossil Junkies staff and hosts are not eligible for official tournament prizes or category awards

• Certified divers only 
• Divers are responsible for their own equipment and dive readiness 
• Standard Fossil Junkies liability waivers and dive policies apply 
• Weather and Gulf conditions may affect scheduling, dive locations, or trip availability 
• Fossil Junkies reserves the right to adjust or reschedule dives for safety reasons 

By participating in Meg Week, contestants acknowledge and agree that photos and video captured during the event may be used by Fossil Junkies for:

• promotional content 
• social media 
• marketing 
• future Meg Week advertising 
• media/news coverage 

Following the conclusion of Meg Week, contestants are invited and encouraged to attend the official awards gathering and celebration.

Meg Week was created to celebrate the passion, adventure, and community surrounding offshore fossil diving and megalodon hunting in Venice, Florida.

Our goal is to build a fun, legitimate, community-driven annual event centered around the thrill of discovering ancient fossils beneath the Gulf waters.
